Amkor's Thermally Efficient ExposedPad(TM) Solution Enables Seamless, Pin-Compatible Upgrades Without Incurring Board and Platform Redesign Costs

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--March 3, 2003-- PMC-Sierra(TM), Inc. today announced a seamless means of upgrading from speeds of 250 MHz to over 600 MHz using the same pin-out and footprint.

PMC-Sierra has applied Amkor Technology Inc.'s ExposedPad(TM) LQFP package technology to allow customers maximum flexibility in upgrading from the RM5200 family of 64-bit MIPS-based(TM) processors to the higher performance RM7000 family of 64-bit processors with on-chip Level 2 cache. The ExposedPad(TM) package addresses cost-sensitive applications such as laser printers, set-top boxes (STB), personal video recorders (PVR) and high definition televisions (HDTV) and provides up to 60 percent enhanced thermal and superior electrical performance.

Introducing the New RM7035C and Two Pin-Compatible Performance Migration Paths

PMC-Sierra also introduced the new RM7035C offered exclusively in the ExposedPad(TM) package. This device is the first RM7000 class 64-bit MIPS-based processor to offer a 32-bit SysAD bus interface optimized for the most cost-sensitive applications. PMC-Sierra's ExposedPad(TM) packaged family of MIPS-based processors will provide two migration paths based on customer requirements for 32-bit or 64-bit wide SysAD bus interfaces (see table 1, figure 1 and
