CHANDLER, Ariz., June 3 -- Amkor Technology, Inc., (Nasdaq: AMKR), a leading provider of contract semiconductor assembly and test services, today announced that the company has moved its corporate headquarters from West Chester, Pa., to Chandler, Ariz.

Amkor pioneered the Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) industry in 1968, and the company first established its presence in the Greater Phoenix area in 1984. Since then Amkor has increasingly focused its corporate executive staff, product management, engineering support and business development teams at its Chandler location. During the past several months Amkor has completed consolidation of the finance and information technology functions from West Chester to Chandler, representing a migration of more than 100 jobs, and bringing the total Chandler employee base to 400. The change in corporate headquarters reflects this consolidation.

"For the past 20 years, Amkor and many other companies located in the Greater Phoenix 'Silicon Desert' have collectively played a key role in enabling the semiconductor industry to achieve remarkable growth," said James Kim, Amkor's chairman and chief executive officer. "During this time Amkor revenue has grown 20-fold, and OSAT has become an $11 billion industry. The relocation of our corporate headquarters follows the functional consolidation that has taken place within Amkor over the past few years and also recognizes that Chandler and Greater Phoenix offer an outstanding base of talented engineers and other high caliber employees to support our continued growth."

"Our ability to attract and keep talented and highly motivated employees in Arizona has been a key factor in Amkor's transition from a small business to a large corporation with a global presence," said John Boruch, Amkor's president and chief operating officer.

"We are tremendously excited that Amkor Technology has chosen Chandler as its new corporate headquarters," Chandler Mayor Boyd W. Dunn said. "Amkor has long been a great asset to our high-tech industrial community, and will continue to bring tremendous job growth and diversity to the City with this expansion. I look forward to a strong and successful partnership with Amkor for many years to come."

"I am very pleased to welcome the corporate headquarters of Amkor Technology to Arizona," stated Governor Janet Napolitano. "As a worldwide leader in semiconductor assembly and test services, Amkor is exactly the type of high technology, high value company we want to have in our state. We are delighted to see Amkor relocate into their existing Chandler facility and join other high technology companies in calling Arizona their home."

"We are pleased Amkor is expanding its presence in Greater Phoenix. The region has established itself as a preferred location for the semiconductor industry," said Barry Broome, president and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC). "Not only is the industry supported by a diverse water portfolio and abundant power supply, but on average 250 new people move to the region each day, and our higher educational system has strong collaborative partnerships with semiconductor employers. Both of these continually feed an already robust talent pool."
