CHANDLER, Ariz., Nov. 17 -- Amkor Technology (Nasdaq: AMKR) has filed suit against Carsem (M) Sdn Bhd, Carsem Semiconductor Sdn Bhd, and Carsem Inc. (collectively "Carsem"). The suit, filed in the International Trade Commission in Washington DC, alleges infringement of Amkor's United States Patent Nos. 6,433,277, 6,455,356, and 6,630,728 (collectively the "Amkor Patents"). Amkor alleges that by making, using, selling, offering for sale, or importing into the U.S. of the Carsem Dual and Quad Flat No-Lead Package, the defendants infringe on one or more of the MicroLeadFrame® packaging technology claims in the Amkor Patents.

"Amkor has invested heavily in research and development for semiconductor packaging technology and has placed an emphasis on expanding its intellectual property portfolio in recent years," said John Boruch, President of Amkor Technology. "Amkor is acting to protect the interests of its employees, shareholders and the investment community by bringing the ITC lawsuit against Carsem," said Boruch. "We have given Carsem every opportunity to license our MLF® patents. Unfortunately, Carsem has been unresponsive to our offer to license. We will protect our intellectual property."
